When a succesful writer refuses to move out of his comfort zone and dishes out similar stories, it means that he doesnt want to try anything different assuming that the reader would just be happy drinking the same wine in different bottles every time he serves it:) :)
Chetan Bhagat's new book REVOLUTION 2020 is as cliched as a 1980's bollywood b grade movie. Its a triangular love story with a confused heroine and an even more confused hero (anti-hero should be the right word)....The story is seen in hundreds of Indian movies and you can predict the end of scene as soon as the scene starts. The author doesn't stress you in guessing the climax as the climax is almost given off in the prologue of the book itself!! ...thats the only good thing about this book... u don't need to be curious as to how the story will end..
The only part where chetan gets some brownie points in this novel is the way he interprets and explains the confusing statements made by girls which make the guys go crazy thinking what they mean actually... specially over chat or SMS....He brings it out in an intelligent way though various situations in the story. He seems to have done a lot of research on this topic and makes some valid points as well... That apart there is nothing new that the author has done in this book.
As you read the book, you start getting a feeling that chetan has written this book thinking that this will surely be made as a bollywood movie... he inserts filmy scenes and even more filmy dialogues at every chapter of this book... it would have been easier for the film makes if chetan had also mentioned where to place the songs in the movie :) :)...
Currently, Chetan is lauded by media as the biggest selling english author in India... If he needs to retain that title and retain it with some respect, he should better change his writing style and come up with some new story ideas. He should understand that the whole reason why India loved 5.someone is because of its fresh story and its unique treatment. When people are expecting something new from him, it is surprising to see him fizz out of ideas so early in his journey as an author...First wake up chethan, then you can bring revolution :)
